How is functional medicine different from regular primary care?
Primary care focuses on managing acute illness, prescribing medications, and providing preventive screenings within the insurance-based model. Functional medicine focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of dysfunction — gut imbalance, chronic inflammation, hormone disruption, nutrient deficiencies, and the underlying patterns that drive symptoms.
Functional medicine takes longer visits, runs more comprehensive labs, and treats the body as an interconnected system. It complements primary care rather than replacing it.
Do I need a referral to start?
No referral is required. Every patient begins by submitting recent labs, completing the symptom intake, and scheduling a Discovery Consultation ($275). Your provider will then recommend the appropriate level of support based on findings.
What is the difference between Essential and Elite membership?
Essential ($175/mo) includes a monthly 30-minute visit, ongoing lab review and care plan, and 25% off cash-pay HRT.
Elite ($259/mo) adds an optional second 30-minute visit each month and Power Panel follow-up labs every 3 months.
Both tiers require a 6-month commitment.
How long until I see results?
Most patients begin noticing changes within 4–8 weeks of beginning a protocol — typically improved energy, sleep, digestion, or mood. Lab markers usually shift meaningfully by the 3-month follow-up window. Deeper changes may require 6 months or more of consistent work.
Do you accept insurance for functional medicine?
Functional medicine memberships, Intensives, and the Gut Reset are cash-pay services. Insurance does not cover the depth of testing and provider time required for root-cause work.
Some labs ordered during care may be billed through insurance depending on your plan.
What happens after I complete an Intensive program?
Patients who complete an Intensive typically transition into Long-Term Maintenance ($129/mo) for lower-touch continuity, or stay in an Essential/Elite membership if their clinical picture still requires more active support.
Can I do functional medicine if I am already a Lightning Prime DPC member?
Yes. Lightning Prime handles day-to-day primary care, while functional medicine handles deeper optimization and root-cause work. If you enroll in a 3-Month or 6-Month Intensive, Direct Primary Care access is included.
